Market Recap: Navigating Market Swings
Wall Street faced uncertainty in the first session, ending mixed amidst anticipation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) release. While the Dow saw a modest uptick of 0.3%, the S&P500 dipped 0.1%, and the Nasdaq fell 0.3%.
Tuesday’s market sentiment took a sharp turn with the release of hotter-than-expected CPI data, igniting worries about potential interest rate hikes. Consequently, the Dow and S&P500 both saw declines of 1.4%, while the Nasdaq plummeted 1.8%.
Mid-week brought a rebound fueled by dovish remarks from Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee, inspiring renewed buying interest. The Dow, S&P500, and Nasdaq closed with gains of 0.4%, 1.0%, and 1.3%, respectively.
Despite disappointing retail sales data on Thursday, lower bond yields helped lift the Major Indexes, with the Dow rising 0.9%, the S&P500 climbing 0.6%, and the Nasdaq adding 0.3%.
However, the week ended on a cautious note as investors assessed the latest Producer Price Index data, leading to declines across the board. The Dow fell 0.4%, the S&P500 decreased 0.5%, and the Nasdaq slipped 0.8%.
Overall, the week saw a reversal of fortune as all three Major Indexes ended with losses. Stay tuned as we delve into insights and predictions for the upcoming week in our video forecast.
